4 paws bakery started in 2006. We started making soft cookies for one of our dogs who had almost no teeth. Then, one day, in the window of a local bank, we saw a flyer advertising a home-based business expo & decided that we should start a pet bakery. We grabbed some recipes from books in our local library, made up a name & through together some cookies & a week later set up a table. We made a grand total of $36 that day. Following our incredible success at the home business expo, we decided to join our local Farmers' Market. We now cringe at the treats we made back then... full of wheat & cornmeal but we didn't know any better. We spent a lot of time chatting with customers & they began asking if we had treats without wheat, without grains, with certain types of protein. That's when we started creating our own new and unique recipes.

Soon we began searching for answers to our own pet problems beyond simply treats. Our furry family (7 dogs & 6 cats) were all rescues & each one had a unique health issue. From food allergies & itchy skin, hip dysplasia & arthritis, infections & chronic illness, emotional baggage & stress, deterioration & old-age to picky eaters & overweight pets, we seemed to have it all. We were not satisfied with commercial foods & synthetic medications as the answer to good health for our beloved pets. After pouring over books & articles written by holistic veterinarians & finding the answers for ourselves, we began sharing them with other people. Customers were generous with their feedback & soon we were able to develop simple & natural solutions that were helpful in solving common pet problems. There is always more for us to learn so our pet problem list & our products are always developing & improving as our knowledge grows.

We are Gwen Burgart & Kim Forrest. Gwen has spent numerous years in retail & sales. She enjoys researching the answers to pet problems & LOVES chatting with people about their furry family members. Kim is an Occupational Therapist whose training involved identifying problems then developing practical & functional solutions. She likes being in the background, listening & developing products to meet customer needs. And she likes to make things look nice.

4 paws bakery carries a generous line of all natural, grain-free treats that cater to picky eaters & pets with allergies. Our products contain NO wheat, corn, soy, grain, salt or sugar. We have many options that contain NO eggs & NO peanuts. We have other products that contain NO beef, chicken or lamb & those with NO meat. Absolutely everything we make contains NO additives, chemicals, preservatives or fillers.

We are located in Prince George, BC, Canada & we source as much of our ingredients from small businesses located around the province. We buy raw ingredients locally & cook & process in the same way as we would if we were baking or preparing a meal for ourselves. Our meats are free-range, non-medicated & come from humanely-treated animals. We offer hypoallergenic, wild & exotic options for animals sensitive to more common proteins. We add herbs & supergreen foods to our products because of their natural healing properties while enhancing taste & aroma. We are proud to offer Special Remedies for Pets made with Bach® flower essences plus other homeopathic & herbal remedies to address physical, emotional & behavioural issues in pets.

We're grateful to those animals that have given up their lives to become a food source & to show our appreciation & respect we use every possible part we can so that little goes to waste. We are respectful of the earth & are continually looking for ways to reduce our environmental impact & carbon footprint.
